Steve R. has been a volunteer tour guide at Pennsb Steve R. has been a volunteer tour guide at Pennsbury Manor for 14 years. After retiring from practicing law, Steve contacted the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging, an organization that matches retirees’ interests with volunteer opportunities. He was a college history major and received a Master's in European History from the University of Michigan before attending law school, so they suggested Steve check out Pennsbury Manor.

Pennsbury Manor has a volunteer coordinator on staff who helps volunteers find roles they can thrive in. The volunteer coordinator thought Steve’s experience as a lawyer would give him the public speaking skills to be a successful tour guide.

“I'm not sure if that's worked out or not, but that's what she thought. So that's what I did,” Steve jokes.

Steve’s favorite part of being a volunteer is talking to the kids who come on school tours. No matter how many tours he has led, the kids always ask him a question he’s never heard before. One time, Steve was demonstrating on a doll how parents would swaddle their children in the 17th century. A 9-year-old girl stops him and asks, “Why don't you do it on an actual baby?”

Steve replied, “The baby asked for too much money, so we got rid of the baby and now we use a doll.”

Thank you, Steve, for brightening everyone’s day with your wonderful sense of humor and infectious laughter!

Meet Briar and Bramble, sheep-in-training. These s Meet Briar and Bramble, sheep-in-training. These sibling lambs came to us January 10th of this year, making them the newest additions to the barn. Bramble is a whether (boy) and Briar is a ewe (girl). If you look closely, you can see where Bramble’s horns are growing in. You can tell them apart by the black spot on Bramble’s ear. We keep Briar and Bramble separate from the flock so we can gradually make them comfortable around people. They will call out to their mom, Lavender, when she and the other sheep are out grazing. They cannot wait until they are trained and able to rejoin their mom and the rest of the flock. We are happy to report that they are making great progress towards that goal. We are excited that they are calm and quiet when eating food. Their next milestone is being able to recognize their name when called. You donation will help give Briar and Bramble excellent care as they learn to socialize with humans.

HELP US HELP OUR ANIMAL FRIENDS

In William Penn’s time, the animals at Pennsbury Manor would have been part of a working farm that sustained the people living there. Today, our sheep, geese, oxen, and horses serve to educate the public about the crucial role of their predecessors.

Unfortunately, some of our animals have been dealing with health issues that have placed a financial strain on our resources. With your generous donation, we will be able to continue to provide a great life for our animals.
