Charter Day
Come join us in celebrating the birthday of Pennsylvania!  We’ll be demonstrating plantation crafts and offering tours of the Manor House.  Best of all, it’s FREE!  (King Charles II of England granted the charter of Pennsylvania to William Penn in March of 1681.)

Judith Roe has been charged with the murder of a traveler who spent the night at her house in 1688. Sit in on her trial and learn all the gory details.

- Spring has sprung and the cooks are delighted with the fresh greens, eggs, and milk products that have been missing in the 17th Century winter. Come see them revel in the fresh foodstuffs spring brings.

The cow is important for the production of milk, not for a beverage but for the preparation and preserving of cheese and butter. The Pennsbury cooks will be making cheese and preparing receipts that use cheese and butter as their main ingredients.

William Penn and fellow Quaker, William Meade, were arrested and brought to trial in 1670 for speaking in the street and causing a riot in the streets of London.  Find out how this trial shaped the American judicial system.

Living History Theater: The Sotcher Wedding
Y
our presence is requested at the marriage of John Sotcher, the steward at Pennsbury Manor, to the Penn's head housekeeper, Mary Lofty. Observe late 17th-century Quaker wedding customs, sign the marriage certificate, and chat with William and Hannah Penn and the other wedding guests.

On crisp fall days, colonial households would put up apple cider to ferment. See how Penn's servants pressed cider and sample the unfermented product.

Living History Theater: Witch Trial
In 1684, Margaret Mattson, a Swede from Chester, Pennsylvania was accused by her neighbors. The accusation was witchcraft. The trial was so important that William Penn presided over the case. Serve on the jury and decide whether she is guilty or innocent, a decision that would affect the peace of the inhabitants of the new colony.

Holly Nights
Experience the enchantment of Pennsbury by candlelight!  A community tradition for over 25 years, this joyous feast for the senses offers crackling fires, hot-mulled cider, dancing shadows, and the merry sounds of carolers strolling the grounds.  So gather friends and family.  Come toss a green sprig on our Yule log bonfire, make your wish for the coming new year.  Step back into the glow of torches, candles, and luminaries…the bustle of colonial craftspeople (always happy to chat, mind you!)…the good cheer of noels and wassailing songs … and – if Old Man Winter wills it – the crunch of frosty pathways underfoot.

Wreaths & Greens Workshop
Spend the morning making a fragrant evergreen wreath to take home.  Our horticulturist will also share tips about how to prune and care for a variety of evergreen trees and shrubs in the home landscape.  Bring Clippers. Pre-registration required.
