William Penn is born on October 14.

Six of sSix of the original 13 colonies already in existence Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, Maryland, New Hampshire, Connecticut.

1652 George Fox founds the Society of Friends (also known as ‘Quakers”) at Pendle Hill.

William Penn enters Oxford. Penn is expelled two years later for his non-conformist views, especially in religion.
1670 Penn’s father Admiral Sir William Penn dies.
1672 William Penn marries Gulielma Maria Springett.
1681 King Charles II grants William Penn a charter for a colony to be known as Penn’s Woods or Pennsylvania, for Penn’s father, Admiral Sir William Penn. Penn first visits colony.
1683 Penn starts construction of Pennsbury Manor.
First Quaker Meeting House in Philadelphia.
1684 Penn returns to England.

Construction of Pennsbury Manor complete.
1696 Penn marries Hannah Callowhill.
1699 Penn and Hannah return to Pennsylvania.
1701 Penn returns to England never to return to the colony.
1718 Penn dies on July 30.
1792 Heirs sell the estate.
1932 Charles Warner Company gifted ten acres of the original site to the Commonwealth.
1939 A reconstructed Pennsbury Manor opens to the public.
1966 The Pennsbury Society established.
